This hollow form is made from spalted beech wood. Spalting occurs when microorganisms enter the wood after it has been cut down, is still wet, and often left in a shady area. These microorganisms leave black lines and various patterns, adding visual interest and character to the wood. It would make a great conversation starter and could be displayed on a bookshelf, end table, coffee table, mantle, or anywhere else you see fit.
